Temporary Work Visa

The UK Temporary Worker visa routes allow eligible individuals to undertake short-term work in the UK for specific purposes, including charitable, religious, creative, sporting and international activities. Depending on the visa category, permitted activities may also include volunteering, work experience and job shadowing, subject to the relevant immigration requirements.

The UK Temporary Work visa route allows employers to fill skilled or seasonal roles that cannot be met by the resident labour market. It is designed for short‑term assignments, ranging from a few months to up to five years depending on the specific scheme.

Who can apply?

The visa is open to individuals who have a confirmed job offer from a UK‑based sponsor that holds a valid licence under the Temporary Worker – Tier 5 system.

Applicants must meet the basic eligibility criteria for the chosen sub‑category (e.g., Creative and Sporting, Charity, Government Authorised Exchange, International Agreement, Seasonal Worker).

Common eligibility requirements

  • Valid certificate of sponsorship (CoS) from the employer.
  • Proof of English language ability at level B1 or higher.
  • Evidence of sufficient funds to support yourself (or a sponsor guarantee).
  • Criminal record certificate for certain categories.

How ICS Partners can help

Our team reviews your sponsor’s licence, ensures your certificate of sponsorship is correctly issued, and prepares a complete document set to minimise delays. We also advise on compliance duties for both employee and employer.

Compliance and after‑arrival duties

Employers must keep records of each temporary worker, report any non‑compliance to the Home Office, and ensure the worker does not exceed the permitted hours or stay. Visa holders must not take up employment outside the approved role and must leave the UK before the visa expires unless they successfully switch to another route.
