Global Talent
Global Talent program requires 2 stages to be completed. Stage 1 is the endorsement part of the application. The requirements to be granted at stage 2 appear in paragraphs GT 1.1 to GT 5.3 of Appendix Global Talent.
The Global Talent visa enables exceptionally skilled individuals in fields such as science, engineering, humanities, medicine, digital technology and the arts to work and live in the UK without the need for a sponsor.
It is designed for those recognised as leaders or emerging leaders on the international stage, offering a fast‑track route to settlement.
Applying for the Global Talent program
Eligibility centres on two core routes:
- Endorsed talent: Applicants who have already achieved recognised awards (e.g., Nobel Prize, Oscar, Olympic medal) or who are members of prestigious bodies.
- Endorsed promise: Emerging leaders who have demonstrated exceptional potential, supported by a strong portfolio of work and a recommendation from an approved endorsing body.
In both cases, a UK endorsing organisation – such as The Royal Society, Tech Nation or Arts Council England – must provide a written endorsement confirming the applicant’s standing in their field.
In summary, you will need to complete the following:
-
Stage 1 is an application for endorsement by an endorsing body - this is the same process for people applying both in and out of the UK.
-
Stage 2 is an application for entry clearance or permission to stay, following successful endorsement.
Key benefits of the Global Talent visa
- Initial permission of up to 5 years, with the possibility of extension.
- Pathway to Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) after 3 years for endorsed talent, or 5 years for endorsed promise.
- Family members can accompany you and work or study without restriction.
Application process
Step 1 – Secure an endorsement
You must submit a detailed endorsement application to the relevant UK body, including evidence of achievements, publications, patents, awards, or media coverage. The endorsing body will assess whether you meet the “leader” or “emerging leader” criteria.
In short, you will need to submit evidences related to your academic, commercial experience - to support in your application. In most matters, you will need to submit your CV, statement and reference letters. Other evidences including contributions and work you have completed.
Step 2 – Apply for the visa
Once endorsed, you file the Global Talent visa application with UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI). Required documents include the endorsement letter, proof of identity, English language evidence (if applicable), and a criminal record check.
The Home Office typically processes endorsed applications within 8 weeks, but processing times can vary. Prompt, accurate documentation reduces the risk of delays.
