The 10-Year Long Residence Route to ILR Explained
Many people are unaware that the UK offers a route to Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) based on 10 continuous years of lawful residence, regardless of the visa categories held.

You may be eligible if you have spent 10 continuous years lawfully in the UK. This can include time on multiple different visa categories — for example, student visa, then skilled worker visa.

Continuous residence means you have not been absent from the UK for more than 180 days in any 12-month period during the 10-year qualifying period.

All applicants must demonstrate good character. The Home Office considers criminal convictions, civil penalties, previous immigration breaches, and other matters.

This is one of the most document-intensive applications in immigration law. Professional assistance is strongly recommended.
